Ma’at, Goddess of Order and Truth
The Egypt Goddess
The ancient Egyptian goddess Ma’at was the daughter of the sun god Ra and the wife of the god of wisdom Thoth, and was symbolized by ostrich feathers. The ancient Egyptians believed that after death, a person would be judged by the gods. Their heart would be weighed against an ostrich feather on a scale. If the heart was lighter or equal in weight to the feather, it meant the person was innocent. However, if the heart was heavier, it meant the person was guilty and would be devoured by the monster Ammit, who had the head of a crocodile and the body of a lion.
