The Qing Court version of the “Along the River During the Qingming Festival”, completed in the first year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1736), was a collaborative effort among five painters from the Qing Palace Painting Institute. Drawing inspiration from past versions, this rendition can be considered a masterpiece that incorporates the strengths of various artistic styles. While preserving the essence of the original work, the Qing Court version also captures the unique customs and traditions of the Ming and Qing periods, adding numerous exquisite details. Not only is it the most popular imitation of the original Song version, but it also serves as invaluable material for studying the social customs of the Ming and Qing periods.
