克洛德．莫內
1840年11月14日～1926年12月5日

法國畫家，印象派代表人物及創始人之一，「印象」一詞即是源自其名作《印象·日出》。莫內擅長光與影的實驗與表現技法，對於色彩的運用也相當細膩。從1883年起，莫內在吉維尼買了房地產，在此建立花園，包括之後成為其作品主題的蓮花池，他與家人居住於此，直到1926年逝世。

The French painter Claude Monet is one of the representative figures and founders of Impressionism, and the word “impression” is derived from his famous work “Impression, Sunrise”. Monet specializes in experimental and expressive techniques of light and shadow, and his use of color is also very delicate. From 1883, Monet bought property at Giverny, where he built a garden, including the water lilies pond that would become the subject of his works. He lived with his family at Giverny until his death in 1926.
