Munch often used themes such as life, death, love, fear, and loneliness in his work. He expressed his feelings and emotions through strong contrast in lines and color blocks, and through concise, exaggerated forms. His paintings evoke a sense of everything – characters, air, memories, actions, and time – freezing in a moment, which might represent the peak moment of a character’s inner emotional activity.
